JFEW supports research that addresses systemic issues impacting women with financial need in their pursuit of a college degree.
Addressing Systemic Issues
Since 2015, JFEW has supported research and non-lobbying advocacy projects on food and housing insecurity, student parents, single-mother education, student success innovation, and financial aid advising. We issue a Call for Proposals biennially. The next Call will be issued September 2024, with grant awards announced in the spring of 2025. Please check back for updates.

Survey of Students’ Basic Needs in SUNY and CUNY Systems
Funding for a comprehensive survey of student needs across New York’s public college campuses. The project assessed food and housing insecurity across the SUNY and CUNY systems and informed structural and policy changes to better support the basic needs of low-income students. CUNY Campaign for Food Security
A program to foster student advocacy on the campuses of John Jay College and Hostos Community College around food insecurity and hunger among CUNY students. Program trained student advocates to raise awareness of campus resources and to reduce stigma and food insecurity. Click here for research findings.
